This is a well made Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard or Salt Spoon. The spoon has a slender stem with a ball finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard spoon was made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers and dates to 1901. Tracing its roots back to Thomas Law in the mid-18th century, the Atkin family took sole control of the business in 1840, first as Henry Atkin & Co and then from 1853 as Atkin Brothers. The firm manufactured both silverware and electroplate in Sheffield and also had a London showroom. They ceased trading in 1958.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use.

The hallmarks visible on the back of this spoon indicate that it is made of British sterling silver (.925 purity), manufactured in Sheffield in 1911 by the silversmiths Harrison Brothers & Howson.

Here is a detailed breakdown, from left to right:

The Crown: This is the Town Mark representing the Sheffield assay office.

The Lion Passant: This is the mandatory standard mark certifying sterling silver with a minimum purity of 92.5%.

The letter "i" means it was made in 1901.

The initials "HA": This is the Maker's Mark for Henry Atkin
